Tina Charles is only in her seventh year in the WNBA but already holds records
Tina Charles is the best rebounding player the WNBA has ever seen. She is the only player to average more than ten rebounds per game for her career in the history of the league with 10.1 rebounds per game.
This number has seen her climb the rebounding charts. Her 747 offensive rebounds has her sitting in 11th overall. The 1,776 defensive rebounds she has collected over the seven year journey has her in ninth overall in this category. This means she has collected 2,523 total rebounds in her short time in the league. This number is good enough for seventh all time in total rebounds.
These number are nothing short of amazing. If she continues at the current rate, Charles is going to lead the entire WNBA in total rebounds before she turns 31. Most WNBA players play into their mid 30’s so one can only assume how high this number will go.
My instincts tell me she will be only the fourth player in league history to collect 1,000 offensive rebounds. She will also be the first player in history to collect 3,000 defensive rebounds which also mean she will be the first player in history to collect 4,000 total rebounds.
However, Charles is not just a rebounding player. She currently sits eighth all time in points per game with just over 18 points per game. Her 4,491 points has her just outside the top 20, only a couple of hundred behind Penny Taylor.
Charles is also a capable rim-protector, her 286 blocks has her in 19th all-time in the WNBA, she only needs two to pass Vicky Bullett and move to 18th.
Charles has won the MVP trophy only once, showing how good the league is at the moment. Hopefully she can take home a Championship in the next few years.
