When the Washington Mystics hosted the Atlanta Dream without their two best players, who would have been able to script what came next.

Most teams would struggle without their two best players. When the Washington Mystics lost Elena Delle Donne through an ankle injury and Taylor Hill was lost for the season with an ACL injury, hope could have been lost.

In the previous game against the New York Liberty, the Mystics went down with barely a whimper, Emma Meesseman  scored 19 of the Mystics 55 points. The team lost by 30 against a very balanced Liberty team.

Fast forward to today, the Mystics are about to take on the Atlanta Dream. The Dream are in the last Playoff slot and would have been looking to solidify their chances with a win against the depleted Mystics.

When the Mystics fell behind by 21 points, Dream fans may have been forgiven for relaxing. Fortunately for the WNBA, the storyline never ends until the final whistle. In a game which went to overtime, Kristi Toliver did all she could to give the Mystics a winning feeling going into the All-Star break.

Tolliver’s 29 points was a game high. Her seven made three pointers tied the franchise record. She was ably assisted by 18 points from both Ivory Latta and Meesseman as well as a massive 17 rebounds from center Krystal Thomas.

The Mystics are not sure when Delle Donne will be back but performances like this one will give the remaining players on the roster a self-belief which will only help the Mystics in their battle to go deep in the post-season.
