After missing the 2017 season, Devereaux Peters has signed on to play with the Washington Mystics.

In a busy free agency period for other teams, with the exception of Monique Currie the Mystics seemed content to re-sign their own players. This all changed when Emma Meesseman announced she was going to concentrate on national team commitments and miss the 2018 WNBA season.

Fortunately the Mystics had already signed veteran Monique Currie , presumably to come off the bench. Without Meesseman, this probably means Currie starts so the Mystics were back looking for a reserve forward.

Fortunately Devereaux Peters has made a career as a reserve forward, first with the Minnesota Lynx and then with the Indiana Fever. In 155 games, Peters has only started four.

In her career, Peters has averaged 16.0 minutes, 4.4 points, 3.7 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game. While these numbers are not going to change many games, they will help a second unit stay in the game.

At 6’2″ Peters is a good size for a back-up. She will most probably spend time at both forward positions as well as in the middle. Peters is not going to take many games over, that is not the way she plays.

What she is going to do is provide a solid base for the Mystics bench and play with high energy to back up Currie and Elena Delle Donne. The ability to be versatile will govern the amount of playing time Peters receives.
