Allison Hightower came back to the WNBA last season and played 11 games for the Washington Mystics. Can she come back and perform off the bench this season.

Last season Allison Hightower joined the Washington Mystics in the second half of the season. This was after missing two and a half seasons through injury. Fortunately, Hightower is a fighter and has made it back to the WNBA.

The Mystics last season were hit by the injury bug. when they signed Hightower she was still a little off her best. However, the way she played sparked the Mystics with her pace and energy.

In 11 games Hightower averaged 13.3 minutes, 4.7 points, 1.3 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 0.7 steals per game. These numbers are not earth-shattering by any means but they are a good bench contribution.

This season, now that Hightower has proven to herself and the Mystics that she is fine, her role should expand. Hightower’s ball handing and penetration will see her contribute to a Mystics team who is going to be without their second best player, emma Meesseman for the 2018 WNBA season.

Hightower is not a noted 3-point shooter. For her career, she shoots at 26.4 percent from beyond the arc. However, with the plethora of 3-point shooters in the team this will not be an option. Kristi Toliver, Ivory Latta, Elena Delle Donne, Monique Currie and  Taylor Hill all have the ability to space the floor, allowing Hightower to go to work.

This season, do not be surprised to see Hightower come close to her Connecticut Sun form where she started 21 games in 2013 averaging 12.8 points, 3.1 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game.

As the above tweet says, “it won’t stop me getting where I want to be.” WNBA benches around the league are going to have to figure out how to stop this talented, determined fighter. The Mystics will be a better team because of it.
