The Chicago Sky rounded out their guard rotation when they re-signed Jamierra Faulkner.
The 2018 free-agency period did not start well for the Chicago Sky. In the first week Jessica Breland signed with the Atlanta Dream. Then in the second week Cappie Pondexter signed with the Los Angeles Sparks.
Fortunately for the Sky, they re-signed their All-Star caliber players in Stefanie Dolson and Allie Quigley. This has left two holes in the roster that need to be filled.
The first hole is the power forward position, this will be addressed in the draft. The second hole is the back-up point guard position. This is where the re-signing of Jamierra Faulkner is a great one for the Sky.
Faulkner was drafted in the third round, taken with the 34th pick in the 2014 draft. Since then the 5’6″ guard out of Southern Missouri played 101 games out of a possible 102.
Unfortunately, such is the curse of the WNBA player, Faulkner was playing in Poland to make enough money. Just one month prior to the WNBA season she tore her ACL in her left knee. This caused Faulkner to miss the entire of the 2017 WNBA season.
Despite not playing last year, Faulkner was with the team every day. This shows the Sky had every intention of re-signing Faulkner if she recovered from the injury. Well, recover she did and now, with Pondexter gone, Faulkner should see her minutes increase.
Fortunately for the Sky, while Faulkner has not played a game for Amber Stocks, the fact she was with the team means she is knowledgeable in how the team plays. This is going to be invaluable.
Couple this with the fact Faulkner has played with a number of players on the roster previously and she will take very little time to get up to speed.
Faulkner has career averages of 16.5 minutes, 6.6 points, 1.5 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 0.8 steals per game. Look for those number to increase as the Sky attempt to make it back into the playoffs this season.
