After a disappointing rookie season can Jennie Sims break into the Indiana Fever rotation.

Jennie Sims joined the Indiana Fever mid way through last season playing a total of 4 games for the fever. She also played 10 games for the Washington Mystics. For the season she averaged 7.4 minutes 1.6 points, 1.1 rebounds and 0.6 assists per game.

These numbers are poor but what is worse for Sims is she shot 24 percent from the field and 22 percent from deep. However when given extended minutes Sims showed what she could do. In the second last game of the season, Sims was given 25 minutes against the Minnesota Lynx.

In this time, Sims went 3-of-6 from the field, 2-of-3 from deep scoring nine points in total. She also had two rebounds, one assist and two steals. It is this all round performance which helped get a contract this season.

However, the problem for Sims is she is a guard trying to break in to a rotation which includes Briann January, Shenise Johnson, Tiffany Mitchell, Erica Wheeler and Jeanette Pohlen-Mavunga.

This rotation is one of the greatest strengths of the Fever. This combination averages 47 points, 11 rebounds, 13 assists and five steals a game.

Sims needs to work on her 3-point shot so that she can become a slightly undersized wing player. Last season, thanks to injury, the Fever were very short of wings. This was why she was signed so late in the season.

At 6’0″ Sims can also get in the paint and fight hard for rebounds. It is these adjustments which will help her get more game time.
