The Dallas Wings had a busy preseason schedule this week, taking on the New York Liberty and then the Connecticut Sun.
Preseason game vs New York Liberty
The Dallas Wings opened their preseason campaign with a hard fought win against the New York Liberty. In a game where nine players played less than 10 minutes, coach Fred Williams was obviously looking to put his new charge through their paces.
Kayla Thornton played a game high 30 minutes and had a very even stat line. She collected four points, two rebounds, two assists and two steals.
Azura Stevens played 29 minutes and was the star of the game. She had 19 points on 8-of-11 shooting, including 3-of-4 from deep. The first game player also had nine rebounds, one steal and one block.
Kaela Davis played 27 minutes for seven points and five rebounds while Breanna Lewis played 24 minutes for four points and three rebounds.
Preseason game vs Connecticut Sun
In their second preseason game of the week the Dallas Wings were beaten by the Connecticut Sun in Connecticut. Again, due to it being preseason there was a level of experimentation.
Liz Cambage looked better this game and was allowed to play 17 minutes collecting 11 points, nine rebounds as well as blocking two shots.
Kaela Davis was given plenty of court time again. In her 22 minutes she collected 12 points. Ruth Hamblin was given just under 18 minutes on the court and was able to produce 12 points and seven rebounds. Six of these were on the offensive end. Just imagine a starting lineup of 6’8″ Cambage, 6’7″ Hamblin and 6’6″ Azura Stevens.
Azura Stevens came back to earth a little this game. In her 19 minutes she went scoreless but was able to collect four rebounds to go along with one assist and one steal.
Twitter schedule
The Dallas Wings are one of the rare teams with five games streaming live on twitter. This young team was exciting to watch last year and will be even better this year.
Their first game is on May 20th against the Atlanta Dream. The next game they have streamed is on the 12th of June vs the Phoenix Mercury.
The next three streamed games will show how far the Wings need to go to compete. On the 26th of June they take on the Los Angeles Sparks. Then on the 17th of July they take on the New York Liberty before finally taking on the Connecticut Sun on the 14th of August.
When there is this much basketball on twitter, it is a great time to be a Dallas Wings fan.
The Wings have one more preseason game on the 13th of May against the Las Vegas Aces. Be sure to come back next week for Wednesday Wings.
