The Dallas Wings re-signed center Cayla George on the first day of free agency.
After just one season with the Dallas Wings, Cayla George has signed on with the franchise in what will should be a much increased role than last year. In her three years in the league, George has backed up two of the most talented centers in the world.
During her two seasons with the Phoenix Mercury, George was the primary backup for Brittney Griner. During her season with the Wings, George was backup for Liz Cambage. These two players are the most incredibly gifted at their position. This has meant that George has not seen the court as much as she deserves.
Last season George was her most efficient from the floor. Her 43.6 from the floor and 30.8 percent from deep. Both of these numbers are career best. He 50 percent from the line was a career worst, but she was only 3-of-6 on the season so this was not a huge issue.
This season the Wings are going to be without Cambage, her trade request takes care of that. Azura Stevens and Theresa Plaisance will get good minutes but George should be given more minutes. New coach Brian Agler has used Candace Parker as a deep-shooting five to great success.
George has a tremendous outside shot and also has a nose for the ball on the defensive end for rebounds. She also has a tremendous high game if she is playing with a good low-post player.
Even with Cambage and Skylar-Diggins Smith out, coach Brian Agler should be able to get the best out of the Wings. George has the potential to be a big part of that.
