Blake Dietrick has re-signed with the Atlanta Dream as a reward for effort.
The Atlanta Dream has almost finished rounding out their roster for the 2019 season. They only have a few roster spots available and they have signed Blake Dietrick to a training camp contract.
Prior to free agency starting, I believed that Dietrick was important to re-sign, partly because she is a solid shooter but also due to the limited cap space the Dream have to play with.
Dietrick has not had an easy path into the WNBA and this is something which cannot be undervalued when it comes to making the most of your opportunities. Dietrick made training camp rosters with the Washington Mystics and Los Angeles Sparks in 2015 before being waived from both.
In 2016 Dietrick played two games with the Seattle Storm and one with the San Antonio Stars. She then had to travel to Australia to join the Bendigo Spirit in 2016-17 before heading to Greece to play in 2017-18.
In 2018 the Atlanta Dream signed Dietrick to a one year deal. She played 26 games as well as three playoff games. She is a hard-working player who is always going to take her opportunities with both hands.
With the Dream roster mostly set, Dietrick is a good rotation piece who has spent the last season learning the Nikki Collen system. Hopefully she will be deployed more this season, if she makes the full team. She will be able to work on her perimeter game, which was one of the few areas the Dream were lacking last season.
