The Connecticut Sun re-signed one of their most important players in Jasmine Thomas to a two-year deal.

The Connecticut Sun have very little work to do this off-season. They only had two players off contract, one of these was Jasmine Thomas. The Sun showed their hand early by coring the talented guard.

Last season Thomas led the Sun in assists with 4.8 per game. She was second on the team in scoring with 12.9 points per game. Thomas was also third on the team in steals with 1.0 steals per game.

Thomas forms a lethal back court combination with fellow guard Courtney Williams, it is one of the best in the entire league. On top of that, the Sun have one of the most even front courts and strong benches. What they have been lacking is the player to close out games.

If this is the season the Sun develop into the top two team in the league, one of their core needs to develop this finishing player. My feeling is that Thomas is going to be this player.

The fact that she has signed on for a multi-year deal means that Thomas believes that the Sun have the ability to take the next step.

Coach Curt Miller has been developing this squad for a number of years. He has had bad luck with injuries to players like Chiney Ogwumike which he has then turned into good luck by utilising Jonquel Jones.

With the organic development that this squad will have over the offseason, there is a good chance they have the makings of a top two team in the league. They will be fighting the Phoenix Mercury and the Seattle Storm for the top spots.

If Thomas can take the next step, the Sun will be hard to stop. One thing is for sure, they will be there in the playoffs, it is just going be a question of how deep they can go.
