The Washington Mystics re-signed LaToya Sanders after her best season yet.
The Washington Mystics are doing their best to bring the core of their finals calibre roster back this season. As such, they have re-signed LaToya Sanders to another contract after her best season yet.
Sanders averaged 10.2 points, 6.4 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 1.2 steals and 1.1 blocks per game. This is the first time she averaged more than 10 points per game for the first time in her career in 2018. What is even better is she also shot at over 60 percent from the floor on a season.
These numbers are special for Sanders as they were career highs in rebounds, assists and steals per game and they were a big reason the Mystics were able to finish the season as runner-up to the dominant Seattle Storm.
With only Tierra Ruffin-Pratt of the core group to re-sign there is a really good chance the Mystics are going to be strong contenders this year. They will have Emma Meesseman back who will certainly take some of the Sanders production away.
However, Sanders has shown that she can produce in the big time so inserting Meesseman back into the lineup will just increase Sanders efficiency, despite the fact her numbers will go down. Next season Sanders is going to have more space on the floor thanks as Meesseman is an incredible scorer from anywhere.
The other thing that last year showed us is that Sanders is over the injury which cost her all but four games of the 2017 season. This can only mean good things for the Mystics who will be looking to take the next step in the upcoming season.
