On the first day of free agency the Connecticut Sun reminded the league how strong they are with the re-signing of Jonquel Jones
Ever since the injury to Chiney Ogwumike which forced the Connecticut Sun to unleash the talent which is Jonquel Jones, she has been a force in the league. The 6’5” center averaged 14.6 points, 9.7 rebounds, 2.0 blocks, 1.5 assists and 1.3 steals in 28.8 minutes per game.
While these numbers are impressive Jones has the ability to take over a game that only a few players in the WNBA have. When she was playing well in the 2019 WNBA Finals the Sun looked like they were going to win it all. Unfortunately she did not play like this for long enough and the Washington Mystics ended up winning the championship.
The Sun are looking to flip the narrative this year. With the Jones signing they are starting the process of continuing their success. With the news coming out that the Sun have also signed DeWanna Bonner the Sun have announced themselves as favourites for the 2020 WNBA title.
Jones already has tremendous chemistry with Courtney Williams, Jasmine Thomas and Alyssa Thomas. It is likely that Shekinna Stricklen will move to another team but if she does not then the Sun are going to have an incredible top seven in their rotation.
While the Sun traded Morgan Tuck to the Seattle Storm the addition of Bonner more than makes up for her loss and potentially the loss of Stricklen as well. These moves have made sure that the Sun are able to re-sign livewire Courtney Williams.
Barring injury, it is going to be a good year to follow the Sun.
